Is the USA Starting a Third Dose of Vaccine?
Is the US planning to start a third dose of vaccine? Officials, who made a statement to the NY Times, gave a date for a possible vaccination. Here are all the details! The United States (USA) may start the third dose of vaccine very soon. US citizens may be eligible to receive a 3rd dose of the coronavirus vaccine as a supplement in September.
The Biden administration has decided that most Americans should get another dose of the coronavirus vaccine as a supplement eight months after their first vaccination, according to information quoted by the New York Times on Monday.
When Does the USA Start the Third-Dose Vaccine Administration?
In a statement to the NY Times, the authorities said that the decision has not yet been made public, but that it could be announced as early as the end of the current week and that the third dose of supplements will be offered to the citizens from mid-September.
Although the vaccines developed for the new type of coronavirus prevent people from having the disease very severely, being hospitalized and causing loss of life, the world continues to worry in favor of the delta variant, which is known to be very highly contagious.
The delta variant has been observed to cause more and more frequent infections, especially among unvaccinated individuals. The findings collected so far have begun to point out that the new variant may reduce the effectiveness of existing vaccines.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved on August 12 that people with weakened immunity take booster doses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention currently does not recommend taking additional doses for other people. The FDA will need to approve additional doses before vaccines are made available to the public. The first booster vaccine is expected to be given to healthcare workers, the elderly, and nursing home workers.
The World Health Organization made a statement
The World Health Organization recently made a statement about the booster vaccine. WHO has called on countries that want to implement an additional dose vaccination plan to protect against the delta variant, to postpone this plan until at least the end of September.
Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “I understand the concern of all governments to protect their people from the Delta variant. But we cannot accept that countries that have already used most of the global vaccine supply use even more.”
