Jeff Bezos’ company, Blue Origin, took the NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) fight against the Moon landing contract to court. The lawsuit is based on Blue Origin’s Moon landing contract with NASA’s Elon Musk’s SpaceX earlier this year.

Blue Origin’s lawyers stated that the lawsuit against the contract was filed in response to NASA’s illegal assessment of the contract.

Jeff Bezos first made a $2 billion offer to the space agency a few weeks ago. Blue Origin founder Bezos had offered to cover billions of dollars in costs if NASA awarded the space tourism company a second human landing system contract.

In the article he sent to Bill Nelson on the subject, Bezos stated that they believed that NASA should return to the Moon quickly in order to advance America’s future in space, that NASA deviated from its acquisition strategy due to short-term budgetary problems, but this proposal was not approved by NASA. He stated that NASA has removed this obstacle and that the only thing NASA has to do is to take advantage of this offer.

Since the contract to send astronauts to the Moon for the first time since the end of the Apollo program was given to Musk’s SpaceX company, Bezos came up with many offers to the space agency, but NASA did not accept Bezos’ offer. He cited the record of orbital missions and other space factors as the reason he chose SpaceX.

Blue Origin said in a statement on Monday that the lawsuit was filed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to fix errors in the evaluation phase of the contract for the human landing system, and the company believes that justice should be provided and the conditions of competition should be fair.

NASA Spokesperson Monica Witt stated that details about Blue Origin’s case are currently being reviewed by NASA. “The agency will make a change as soon as possible and on the way to return safely,” Witt said in response to a question about how the suspension of the case and a possible court order would affect SpaceX’s contract suspension.

Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, on the other hand, did not make any statement regarding the lawsuit filed with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
