Makana nō nā keiki, a toy drive and holiday experience for children impacted by the Maui fires, announced today the deadline to register keiki wish lists is Oct. 31, 2023. The website has a section for family or friends to register their keiki (ages 18 and below) with a top three wish list.
Another section of the website is for those who would like to select a child or children to donate to. There are nearly 200 children already up on the website ready for wishes to be granted. Makana nō nā Keiki’s director, Kanani Oury, says she has about 500 more currently being loaded to the site.
All gifts purchased by donors will be shipped directly to Makana nō nā Keiki’s safe storage on Maui. Gifts will be hand-wrapped by a dedicated team of volunteers and distributed in person at the Makana nō nā keiki community event on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. The event will also feature live music, cultural games and a holiday feast.
“We aim to grant all keiki wishes in a personal and meaningful way this holiday season,” said Director, Kanani Oury. “We want to provide one day where the kids and hopefully their families do not think about the loss, but rather focus on just enjoying themselves amongst community, while having their holiday wishes granted. While planning independently from Oʻahu, we have partnered with Fujinaga Electric, Maui Oil, Stonefish Grill, Waste Pro Hawaiʻi and nonprofit Living Pono Project to accomplish our goal for the 2023 holiday season.”
Makana nō nā keiki urges Maui families to register by Tuesday, Oct. 31.
