The Salvation Army on Maui announced three new job positions to aid in wildfire recovery and revitalization efforts.

The Salvation Army has created three job positions aimed at assisting Maui residents in recovery and revitalization efforts following the August 2023 wildfires.

As Maui’s immediate needs for wildfire recovery efforts, such as food assistance, begin to taper off, The Salvation Army is now urgently seeking to fill three key positions to assist in more long-term recovery efforts and support:

Maui Recovery Project Coordinator: This role will focus on planning and overseeing community outreach programs, events, and recovery efforts, ensuring that residents receive the support they need to rebuild their lives. This is a new position in the Emergency Disaster Services Department.

Volunteer Coordinator: The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for volunteer program operations, including recruitment, management, training, support, supervision, and evaluations of volunteers. Oversight includes community engagement, group volunteer activities, developing partnership and establishing and upholding volunteer policies and procedures in accordance with best practices in the field of volunteerism.

Maui Fires Case Work Specialists (5 positions): Provide overall case management for The Salvation Army Maui Fire Early Recovery Program and Long-Term Recovery Program which will include, but is not limited to, client interviews, case management notes, situation assessments, long term planning, distributing financial assistance, liaison to other community relief agencies, coordination of casework with other community agencies and attendance at meetings pertinent to the long-term recovery case management process in Maui County. 

In addition to these openings, The Salvation Army is currently seeking to fill the role of Director of Emergency Services and Safety, which will be based in Oʻahu.

Despite the recent loss of its facility in West Maui due to the Lahaina wildfire, organization leaders say The Salvation Army remains unwavering in its dedication to serving the Maui community.

The organization continues to operate essential food distribution and feeding programs, and is currently providing direct financial assistance to survivors, maintaining a strong presence in the face of adversity, and offering a lifeline to those affected by the disaster.

For 128 years, The Salvation Army has offered the island community a diverse range of programs and services. This includes family stores, food distribution, homeless services, character-building, community recreation programs, daycare, music and arts programs, women’s ministries, worship services and more. Additionally, the organization provides assistance in times of need through its emergency disaster services.

The organization is actively seeking qualified individuals who share their commitment to service.

For more information on these job openings, The Salvation Army will be at the Maui Strong job fair, located at Kīhei at Maui Nui on Oct. 25, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m., and Kāʻanapali at Whalers Village on Oct. 26, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  All current available positions are also posted online at: Salarmyhi.careers.
