Trader Joe’s and Costco Recall Premade Foods Tied to Listeria Outbreak

In response to a nationwide listeria outbreak, Trader Joe’s and Costco recalled multiple premade food items that may have included cotija cheese contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a potentially life-threatening bacteria.

Listeria is a common bacteria, but the Listeria monocytogenes strain can be dangerous to vulnerable groups like the very young or old and those who are immunocompromised. Listeria infection can also cause miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant people.

Two people so far have died and 23 have been hospitalized after eating contaminated dairy products tied to the outbreak.
